Riding Skills Classes:   $$99 per class

BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE

Taking tips from other riders can be a little risky.   You will learn all the major skills needed to dramatically increase your balance, control and handling.  This one-day class is approximately three hours with class sizes from 6 - 10.  Some  topics include:

  1. -starting/stopping on hills    - controlled braking

  2. -balancing drills                   - proper/safe turning

  3. -basic maintenance              - shifting (all terrains)

  4. -riding in side winds            - hands off handlebar drills

  5. -descending safely               - riding a straight line

  6. -how to ride in a group

Remember, you don’t know what you don’t know...

ADVANCED

This class is tailored to dramatically increase your comfort and confidence level while riding on the road.  We take all the fundamentals from the Beginner/Intermediate class (along with many new topics) and implement them in a group ride environment on the road.  This class will also arm you with tremendous knowledge for maximum safety; for yourself and for those riding next to you.  In other words, you will learn advanced skills to ride offensively and defensively.  As your speed increases and as you ride in faster groups, make sure you are fully prepared; things happen so be prepared with this class.  Some additional topics include:

  1. -fast recovery                     - braking (fast descents/group rides)               - dynamics while riding in groups (at speed)

  2. -drafting                             - transitioning out of saddle                             - maintain momentum (help remove gaps)

  3. -effective shifting              - riding upfront (your responsibilities)             - turning (speed up vs. slow down)

‘A’ GROUP / RACER    $5 discount if you are part of a legitimate racing team

If you are able to stay with the fast group (a.k.a ‘A‘ Group), make the investment to be as prepared as possible for countless scenarios by attending this class.  You will learn ‘racing type‘ techniques that will probably save you from a future crash.  Since speeds in the A Group are much faster, you have even less time to react safely.  Are you aware...and confident in your ability to react to whatever?

For example, what do you do if someone bumps you or your wheel causing you to lose balance?  How do you stay up in a fast turn when you are cut off?    Do you know what the three climbing positions are...and why?  This class takes offensively and defensively riding to a whole new level.  Some topics include:

  1. -making contact w/o crashing                           - apexing (advanced cornering techniques)

  2. -power/endurance drills                                    - sprinting (max power)

  3. -unique ways to create more power (at will)    - advanced shifting (never lose momentum)

  4. -advanced maneuvers (staying in control)        - advanced strategy techniques (how not to tip off your competition)

REMEMBER, just because someone can ride fast DOES NOT make them a great rider; it just makes them fast.  This class teaches you to be BOTH!!!

"Being a beginner, Robert made it real easy with his knowledge and techniques and ease of teaching.  I feel a lot more confident as a rider with his teachings for now and for future ridings as I become a more avid cyclist"

RIDING SKILLS CLASS

A BIG HIT!!

After four years of coaching one-on-one, Robert Wilhite, Owner of MyCycleCoach.com, completed his first Riding Skills class in April...and it was a huge success.  Holding classes each Monday afternoon in April, Robert covered topics that every cyclist has or will encounter while riding.  For example, would you like to know how to climb better?  How about trying to clip in your pedals and start moving in the middle of a hill?  Or, do you know the safest way to turn...and why?  These, and so many others topics relevant to every cyclist, were covered in detail with an enthusiastic class.  Most every topic was proceeded by an on-bike demonstration of the most efficient way to execute...as well as the not-so-efficient (and unsafe) way that you typically find with most cyclists.

Every topic seemed to hit a cord with every attendee, as their heads started shaking acknowledging that either they had seen other cyclists or themselves do things improperly and sometimes unsafely.  Speaking of safety, each attendee began to realize that safety was an integral  part of and had relevance to every riding topic taught.

"I think Robert said it best, “you don’t know what you don’t know”.  So true!  The tips and techniques yesterday were great.  Watching Robert perform the cornering maneuvers, was quite scary.  I can’t ever imagine turning a corner going that fast!  However, seeing and experiencing the difference between the two techniques was amazing".

"As someone who has been riding for 10 years if I had some of the skills we learned in the freezing cold on Monday I would have never fallen and broken my collar bone 7 years ago.  Looking forward to next week!.

The section on turning and moving our body position was very educational.  Now I’m sure I can corner and feel a lot more comfortable.  I also now know to keep the gears in low when storing my bike. Good tip to save the chain".

"The session was great last night, very very helpful"

"I really did feel more in control with the weight shifting/center of gravity method of turning.  I have plenty of hills and quiet streets around my house to practice the starting/pedal clipping and gear shifting skills".
